CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE
I am a Professional Counselor, licensed in the state of New Jersey. I hold two Masters degrees. The first was earned from the New School for Social Research in New York City. It is a Masters in Psychology. The second was received from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey and is a Masters in Counseling and Psychological Studies.
I am a member of the American Counseling Association and the National Board for Certified Counselors.
In addition to my work as a counselor, I have been an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Sussex County Community College since 2001. I have taught courses in General Psychology, Adolescent Psychology, Child Psychology, Psychology of Aging, Human Relations, and "Drugs, Behavior, and Modern Society."
In 1969, I became supervisor of the first out-patient department for Beth Israel Medical Center’s Methadone Maintenance Treatment Program. This was the first methadone maintenance program in the world, created by Drs. Marie Nyswander and Vincent Dole. It was the model for similar treatment programs later created all over the country. I remained in this position for ten years achieving the first of my Master’s degrees during this time.
In 1986, I helped start Sony Corp's first Employee Assistance Program in the New York/New Jersey area.
From 1994 to 2000, I developed and coordinated the Adolescent Treatment Program of Hunterdon Medical Center's Behavioral Health Department. As coordinator, I had the dual responsibility of supervising counselors and social workers in the treatment of emotionally disturbed adolescents and their families as well as being the counselor for the more difficult clients.
In counseling both adults and adolescents, I have dealt with a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, grief, stress management, anger management and crisis situations. I have also seen numerous men and women who have been troubled with mid-life crisis issues. I have utilized individual, group, couple, and family counseling. My primary treatment strategy is cognitive-behavioral although I use a number of other approaches based upon the needs of the client.
Since 1977 I have used hypnosis in my private practice to help clients in a wide variety of areas such as smoking cessation, overeating, phobias, test anxiety, sports performance, stress reduction and much more.
From 1995 to 2000, I served as director of Hunterdon Medical Center’s "Smokeless" Program. It was a program offered to the community to help people become non-smokers. It utilized a variety of strategies including hypnosis.
Among my personal interests are hiking, running, and agility competition with my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and German Shepherd. See the photos link to the left.
